Sandy

October 17th, 2007

Excellent! I got my invite for I Want Sandy and I’m signed up. It looks like it will work similar to Vitalist and other similar GTD software, but it seems to be much more flexible. I’m not sure if there is a mobile version of the site, though she can send reminders by text message. I think I can send invitations now, but I’m not sure. I think I’ve already invited two friends, because I happened to spot them on the InviteShare listing of Sandy hopefuls.

Simpsonize Nobody

July 23rd, 2007

I have spent three hours trying to use Simpsonize Me. The one time it actually uploaded my photo, it cropped it the wrong way or something, and it was useless. So I’ve tried again, and again, and again. I either get the interminable spinning donut, or an error about my photo not working. Here are the photos I have tried: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. It just hates me, that’s all there is to it.

My Pink Website

May 2nd, 2007

I started a new website a few weeks ago, it’s called Pink Blog. I created it after I realized that nobody had posted at My Pink Room since November or PinkBlog.net since October. I really liked My Pink Room, so with both of these being dead blogs it seemed to me there was a void in the world of pink blogging. Unlike PinkBlog.net, I am not using affiliate links on every post - I am really just trying to bring the best of pink products in blog format. I mostly surf shopping blogs for this kind of thing…I have always seen pink products on various shopping blogs and I always wanted to note them down!

So far Pink Blog is still just getting started, but I am having fun with it and I like how it’s shaping up.

Buzznet

February 15th, 2005

I signed up for Buzznet a couple of weeks ago when I got my Sidekick, but I didn’t use it because I was a bit wary of it. I then forgot all about it until I saw Wil Wheaton’s posting of Crazy Old Walter (he’s going to be on CSI, yay!). I poked around for a minute or two and then promptly uploaded a slew of pictures that I’ve taken with my Sidekick. They’re all from my Flickr sidekick stream, but I didn’t upload the ones that have been locked to friends-only viewing on Flickr.

Now I’m trying to figure out what to do with the Buzznet gallery. I need to investigate the post-by-mail interface to determine if it’s more flexible than Flickr’s, and whether or not it allows posting direct from mail to an offsite blog. I also don’t know if any of my friends are on Buzznet - I have several contacts listed on Flickr, but the only people I have listed on Buzznet are Wil Wheaton and the extra account I made before I remembered the original account’s password (the nice tech support guy deleted it for me)!

BlogClicker vs. BlogExplosion

January 13th, 2005

I just signed up with BlogClicker and I’ve been playing with it for a bit. I find that I still prefer BlogExplosion, though, for several reasons.

BC lacks a countdown clock; I haven’t bothered to actually time the wait. I find clicking on a picture much more confusing than clicking on a number. I really don’t like that the BC bar switches between the top and bottom. The BE bar isn’t nearly as obtrusive as the BC bar, because the latter acts more like an annoying banner ad on a webpage - it detracts much more from the blog I’m actually trying to read. I don’t care about the ratings on BE - I very rarely rate sites - but I do like the BlogMarking feature. I don’t like the slot machine opportunity to win mystery credits; I prefer BE’s method of giving me credits when I win them and otherwise not interrupting my surfing.

I’m going to continue using BC, though, because I do want to give it a chance to improve. It’s only been around for a few days (apparently), and BE’s been around for a few months. We’ll see how things go.

LinkRanks

December 15th, 2004

PubSub, a service I have yet to sign up for, has a new feature called LinkRanks. It’s supposed to measure the “strength, persistence, and vitality of links appearing in weblogs.” As near as I can figure out, it’s another popularity contest. It claims to use only links actually within weblog entries, not in blogrolls or sidebars. It also claims to be different from Google PageRank, although LinkRanks also uses a mathematical formula that’s beyond my comprehension. For some reason it asks bloggers who mention the system to include this URN: http://psi.pubsub.com/20040413:linkranks:1 …I have no idea what that’s for, or why it’s a URN and not a URI or URL…but whatever! Anyway, I’ll probably check back at some point to see how the LinkRanks concept is developing. And hey, check out the LinkRanks for amanita.net and journal.amanita.net! [via weblog tools collection]

Internet Alphabet: Home Edition

November 16th, 2004

I just know you were waiting for this…weren’t you? It’s the home edition of the meme I did earlier today. If you missed that one but you’d like to play along, type each letter of the alphabet into your browser’s location bar and list the first link that comes up. (This only works if you have autocomplete on, by the way.) Notice how there’s considerably more porn in this version.

A is for my Amanita.net MT installation.
B is for BISscheduling.com.
C is for my CyDy Blog MT installation!
D is for DarkPlay’s member section.
E is for Everything2.

Internet Alphabet: Work Edition

November 16th, 2004

Swiped from Kymberlie again! (Yes, I am still working on those pictures.) This is my work edition of the Internet Alphabet meme; I’ll probably do a home edition too. To play along, type the letter from the alphabet into your URL bar and list the first site that comes up.

A is for A1Hosts.com.
B is for the Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia.
C is for the Canadian Association of the Deaf.
D is for Darren Barefoot’s essay on choosing a domain name.
E is for eBay.

Apologies Accepted

November 13th, 2004

The Sorry Everybody site is quite popular. There’s been a response site created recently: Apologies Accepted. My favorite so far from that site is here, but I find this one rather incomprehensible.
