Marlee Matlin was named to the Gallaudet Board of Trustees!! *dies*
I’ve started buying clothes for the size-16 woman I am, not the size-8 woman I wish I was. This doesn’t mean I’m giving up, but it means I want to wear cute clothes now and not look like a dork while I’m waiting. Here’s some Torrid stuff I bought.
bought on eBay for $11.50 |
I am stoked about my new toy, so I wanted to share it. I got the Ninja Remote from Thinkgeek, because it is absolutely essential at Gallaudet. There are multiple TVs in the Rathskellar Pub and the Marketplace dining area and they are always playing different things, frequently at very high volume. Now I have the power of mute! I’ve already used it on the TV in the Honors Lounge - this morning I wanted to do a little writing for one of my classes, and the TV was on loudly and nobody was watching it, so I just aimed my Ninja Remote and muted it! Gosh it feels good to do that.
Right now I’m typing on my new laptop. My old laptop, meanwhile, is chugging through the MoveMe process. Unfortunately the laptop magically turned itself off after about an hour, so I’ve had to start again. As I write this, it’s gone through about 28 minutes so far and it has 6 hours 45 minutes left to go. It needs to move 16GB of stuff and it’s up to 625MB packaged so far. It will be worth it once it’s done…hopefully it will work out okay in the morning. Meanwhile I am doing math homework and watching an episode of Modern Marvels about Star Trek technology - pretty much everybody agrees that the Trek tech they’d like to have the most is the transporter. Back to math homework now!
Added: It just did it again. Now I’ve started over again. *headdesk*
Added: Okay. So after the third time MoveMe caused the computer to randomly shut down, I gave up on it and tried PCmover instead. They’re both owned by the same company now anyway, so I figured I could get a refund for MoveMe (which was $40) pretty easily. I paid $50 for PCmover and it looked real shiny and cool, but it just did the same damn thing. I am so frustrated and pissed. I should just burn all my documents and stuff to a CD, copy down which programs I want to install on the new one, and do it manually. Because this is unbelievable and it fucking sucks!
So the other day…I bought a new laptop. I ordered it from Dell, with whom my school has a discount program, and with whom I’ve been happy for many years. I currently use a Dell Inspiron 1150, which is quite serviceable but is starting to fall apart in little ways. It also has a crappy processor, which is why I couldn’t run SP2 worth a damn. So I bought a new one. Here’s the specs.

Today at GenCon I bought colored contacts. Black actually. Never having worn contacts before ever in my life, it took me 45 minutes to get them in. A nice lady gave me a bottle of solution to keep, and passed along some tips for putting them in. Fortunately the hotel sundries shop had a $2 contact lens case for me to keep them in!
I have been wearing them for about six hours now and they feel fine. They give me a tiny smidge of tunnel vision but it’s not bad - I am pretty amazed that I can see out of them perfectly normally! (Remember, before today I had never even held a contact lens, let alone worn one.) Once I take them out tonight, I may not put them back in for a while -
probably not till after I get home from the honors retreat and stuff. I definitely want to come home to A with them on! Then again, maybe I will practice putting them in a few more times.
I have wanted colored contacts for SO long. I was amazed that these were only $45! I was kind of torn between the black and the red, but I decided the black would be more subtle. I want people to peer at my eyes wondering “hey, is something weird with your eyes?” rather than just saying “whoa, you’ve got red eyes!” I got them from ExoticLenses.com; they had a lot of different styles but the black and red (and maybe white) were the only ones I was really interested in.
Update: I took them out after about eight hours of wear. They looked really cool, and only took a couple of minutes to take out versus 45 minutes to put in! I finally signed up for the $10/day internet, so when I am not so tired I will type up the past couple of days worth of happenings.
We were supposed to go to a Buffy singalong tonight, but my brilliant sister-in-law didn’t go to buy the tickets until Thursday night, and of course they were sold out. So we’re going to see the Harry Potter movie instead. I also finally redesigned my Sidekick 3 skin; the first one came out really bad and satisfaction is guaranteed so I wrote to them, mailed back the bad one, and got a coupon for a free replacement. The front is going to look like this now.
Also, we went to the Original Pancake House today and had yummy pancakes - I got Chocolate Chip and A got buckwheat with pecans. I had never been to the Falls Church location;
tikva and I went to the Rockville one a couple of times. I took some Alli before the pancakes; I’m giving it a try. A’s been using it for a little while but I am not sure if I will want to do it forever.
I interpreted Capital Pride 2007 today with some very talented co-interpreters. Now I am tired. There are some website things I need to work on but I will do that stuff tomorrow. It was fun, I got this great shirt (a parody of this one), I saw cool people. I love Pride.

When I bought my Sidekick 3 after we got back from Alaska, one of the first things I did was buy a new skin from MyTego. I had gotten my previous skin from them as well, it was a rainbow skin, and I was very happy with it. (I have gotten the back skinned both times too, with different pictures of my wife.) It arrived today, and the result was pretty good. By the way, I should totally get a freebie from MyTego, considering all the advertising I’ve done for them - people are constantly asking me where I got the skins from! I had a little bit of trouble putting the skin on tonight because the process has changed, but I think I managed to get it on there pretty well. I’m not 100% sure the ambient light sensor is going to work the way it’s supposed to, but we’ll see. |
