Mr. Maryland Leather 2007 Contest
Mr. Maryland Leather 2007 Contest,
originally uploaded by woofiegrrl.
My friend (and co-interpreter) [info]fairerhiannon took this picture for me after the contest was over. I was exhausted, but I had a big smile because I knew she was about to let me out of the corset!

It looked great, and I got tons of compliments, but I think it really was too tight. My wife tightened it up for me and it felt really good going on, so I left for the contest. This was the first time I’d worn it out, and driving up there was tough but I figured I’d be okay once I was standing. Guess again! It was still awfully tight and I was very conscious of it the whole time. I had a really big gap in back but I guess it should have been a little bigger!

I was amused that one of the deaf boys was wearing a male corset too. He needed me to e-mail him about something so he gave me his card, which I promptly dropped. [info]fairerhiannon was there and I asked her to pick it up for me - no bending, remember - but the deaf boy got it instead! Not an easy feat, because I’m pretty sure his corset was steel-boned like mine.

If you click through to the Flickr picture, there are some other pictures of the same outfit from earlier in the day.

The very first picture of me in my purple corset is here. It is probably NSFW…it’s not explicit, but I’m only wearing underthings with the corset. (It’s probably safe for my parents.) It’s not a great picture, and the corset needs to go down much further, but it’s a good start. I wore it for about 30 minutes tonight.

I ended up buying corsetworld.net because I needed to have a purpose for my domain. The survey showed that geekygrrl.net was very popular, but I didn’t know what I would do with it, so I chose the one that I would actually know what to do with. It will be the new home for my collection of links to corsetmakers’ websites, and I will probably put my own pictures up there, and [info]sskipstress has a home there if she ever wants it!

With 38.1% of the vote, the winner is Violet Silk Brocade! I’ve sent in my measurements and fabric choice and all that and if I’m lucky I’ll get the corset by the time we go on vacation; if not by then, maybe by the Mr. DC Eagle contest.

Poor Amanita had to go to the vet today. She has been having problems hearing, and she hadn’t had a health checkup in forever - she’s probably about 12 years old now. So off to the vet she went, and the poor baby puked on the way there and peed herself on the way back. She got a rabies shot and a leukemia test, and was pronounced in reasonably good health. The hearing problems - she was quite deaf for a while, but she responds to loud sounds now - are due to gunk in her ears, so they cleaned that out, and there’s more in there they weren’t able to get to. She also has a cracked tooth that will have to be removed at some point, and they’ll clean her ears more deeply when she’s under anesthesia for that. The vet wasn’t particularly concerned about her stiffness, it’s just part of getting old; he said losing some weight would help but not to worry about it too much.

I decided to play a bit with SurveyMonkey because I’ve taken many surveys hosted with them and I wanted to try it for myself. I’m still trying to decide on a fabric for my underbust from Meschantes, so I made my own survey. It’s pretty easy, only the first question is required.

I made a bit of money selling text ads on my website, so I was going to have [info]no_baka make an underbust corset for me, with mockup and everything. Unfortunately she had to cancel, so I turned to Meschantes on eBay instead. I ordered their Courtesan Underbust style, which is no longer available on their website - if it ever was, since I can’t find it in Archive.org either. It looks like this from the front and this from the back (these pictures contain lingerie but are not explicit, so it’s mildly NSFW) but I’m planning to get one without all that rick-rack.

I’m probably going to get this corset in a 24″ waist. At the end of 2005, I was wearing corsets with a 32″ waist, but I’ve lost enough weight since then that I’ve come down several inches! I had to request extra-long laces, and I will be wearing it with a huge gap in the back, but hopefully I will be shrinking into it over the coming months. I know I can wear a 26″ easily, and I want this one to last me slightly longer than my others have!

The only question is - what fabric to get? I’m trying to choose from these nine patterns, and I’d like to be able to possibly wear it for platform interpreting (leather stuff) so I wouldn’t want it to be overly busy/distracting or have it blend completely with my skin. But I like all of those nine…so I don’t know which one to get!

I’m getting another corset - this time it’s going to be an underbust. It’s being made by [info]no_baka, who is including both shipping and a mockup in the price! I’ve asked for it to have a 26″ waist even though my 28″ Meschantes corset doesn’t close all the way yet. I’ve only got about an inch or two of gap in the back with that one, though, and I am hoping to continue to lose weight, and I am fairly squishy - which all means I should do fine with a 26″ corset. Heaven knows why I’m so obsessed with them…I’d still be tightlacing if it didn’t give me really terrible hives.

I haven’t thought much about materials yet, because that decision doesn’t need to be made until after I receive the mockup and send it back. The shape I have requested is similar to the corset seen here, with a slight rise between the breasts and about 3″ of hip coverage.

The money for this corset is coming from the text ads I currently have running on my site, and also I am selling an old one on eBay. I tried to sell it once before but it didn’t go as high as I was hoping, so I held onto it; this time I just want it to be sold and I’ll take whatever I can get for it. It only has one bid, but there are 10 watchers so we’ll see what happens.

Meschantes Victorian Overbust
Meschantes Victorian Overbust,

It’s finally here! I was checking the mail with great anticipation every day for two weeks, and it’s finally here! This is the corset I took a poll about a little while ago, and I’m really pleased with the way the paisley turned out. There are a number of things wrong with this picture - the lacing shouldn’t be wrapped around, I’m standing somewhat crooked, the bust could be laced more tightly, and I’m wearing a dorky liner under it - but you get the general idea. The shape is really great, I’m so thrilled with this! And it’s definitely custom - I can tell because it fits. I’ve always known that “a custom corset won’t hurt because it will just FIT you” but now I finally know what that means. (My other corsets have been somewhat less than fully custom, let’s just say that.) Anyway, it’s finally here, and I love it!

After LLC ended yesterday, I figured I’d stop by Purple Passion since it was on my way home and I had a 30% off coupon from the conference. I tried on a black 28″ underbust by Versatile Fashions; I think it was their “Hiplette” corset. I didn’t really like the shape it gave me or the shape of the corset itself, though, so I put it back. I asked if they had any other black 28″ underbusts, which they didn’t, but they did have a black 28″ overbust by Shane Aaron that had just been delivered. It had a sweetheart top, and I let the salesgirl lace me into it in the interest of expediency.

It looked great. It fit me great, I looked great, everything was great. Except for the wrinkles that were around the hips, which seemed really weird. With the 30% off coupon the corset would have been $255, and I decided that for a purchase of that size I wanted it to be exactly right. So I left without it…and now I am prowling corset makers again. Not that I have the money for it, of course…I just really want a black corset. Phooey.

Oh, and the corsets I was wearing a few months ago were mostly 32″ corsets. So yay for weight loss.

Smiling in the Meschantes Corset
Smiling in the Meschantes Corset,

Oh man, I’m very excited. My Victorian Underbust is here! It’s by Meschantes which is actually a professional corset company, as opposed to the individual amateur makers I’ve worked with before. The pink gingham one is not made quite right, and the rose one is nice but it has a few problems. This one is good. I am so happy with this. They’re not the best corsetmakers in the world - C&S seems to have a big following, and the work Joyce does for Creations l’Escarpolette is just astonishing - but they are certainly decent, and while I’ve heard bad stories about their customer service I didn’t have any problems. (It isn’t fully custom, it is a standard that closes at 32″, and I got it through eBay.) Anyway, I’m quite pleased right now.
