I saw Hugh Jackman yesterday! We were walking along the Hudson River park area and we passed a small group of men, one of whom I knew I recognized but couldn’t put a name to. He was speaking, but I didn’t recognize his voice either. After he passed, I asked A if she had recognized him - she said no, and then “do you mean the Aussie?” That’s when it clicked for me - Hugh Jackman! I know he’s in NYC because he’s starring in The Boy From Oz. He’s only the second celebrity I’ve stumbled across in NYC, following seeing Boy George a couple of months ago.
Oh no! According to an article from Agape Press (a Christian news service), PAX will be halting production of Sue Thomas, F.B.Eye at the end of the current season in January. I would count the show among my favorites currently on the air - yes, it’s intensely cheesy, but it’s not overly religious: the God references are kept to once per episode, don’t impact the plot, and aren’t even in all the episodes. (They’ve been making more God references lately than they used to, but they’re still just the moral at the end of the story.)
I was fortunate enough to meet Deanne Bray and Troy Kotsur (her husband) in September 2003, on the closing night of his Broadway appearance in Big River. I got to chat with both of them; she is as fluent in ASL as she is with oral English. I would be terribly disappointed if the show went off the air! This is the first TV show I’ve ever heard of that not only had a deaf main character, but also starred a deaf actor. (Shoshannah Stern played a minor character on the short-lived series “Threat Matrix,” but she was almost never shown.) There is reportedly a campaign to save the show underway at stfbeyefanfic.com, I’m going to check it out. (I had no idea people were writing fanfic about this show!)
Eeeeeek! Mister Winkle is going to be in Bethesda on Saturday, November 20th! He will be at the Barnes and Noble at 1:00pm, and I am definitely going to see him. I’ll be bringing our copy of his book so we can get his pawtograph!
The other night I saw my college acquaintance Eric Barry in a commercial for Domino’s new Doublemelt pizza! Almost four years ago, I wrote about his appearance in the John Waters movie Cecil B. Demented. He and I were in an acting class together at Western Maryland College, and I exchanged e-mails with him a while back but I don’t think he remembered me. I see from his IMDb filmography that he’s done some guest appearances on ER, Boston Public, and Judging Amy, among other shows. But I’m quite certain that was Eric as the delivery guy in the Doublemelt pizza commercial. I hope it turns up on TV again; I’ve seen other Doublemelt ads since but they haven’t featured a delivery guy. I wonder if he still skateboards everywhere he goes…
