Today was a bit of a bummer due to the first snow of the season. We were supposed to run errands, then go bowling, then go have cake at my in-laws’ house. The errands were going to include picking up a PS2 memory card, because when I tried to play one of my birthday presents yesterday, I realized that my only PS2 card has died…somehow. I have some games on PS1 cards, but whatever was on my PS2 card - including my 860m katamari - is gone.

I was really looking forward to the bowling and cake, because it was going to be kind of like a birthday party. Last night my sister-in-law went out to dinner and had friends over, and I could hear them downstairs having fun, and we weren’t invited. (Remember, her birthday is the same day as mine.) So next year I’m hopefully going to have my own party, but for this year it was going to be bowling and cake today…and I didn’t get it. We’re going to go over for cake anyway sometime this week, but the party atmosphere won’t be the same. I’ll hopefully be getting together with my mom this coming weekend (?) so we’ll see how that goes.

By the way, I’ve had a few margaritas tonight. So forgive me if I’m not making much sense.

Let there be no doubt in anyone’s mind that peanut butter is truly my favorite food. Here’s the recipe for my birthday cake - it came out delicious.

PEANUT BUTTER CAKE
1 pkg. Betty Crocker Moist Butter cake mix (I got triple chocolate fudge)
18 oz. creamy peanut butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. boiling water
Cake - prepare cake mix as directed. Makes 4 thin 9 inch layers, cool. (we made two layers)
Icing - Mix peanut butter, sugar and boiling water. Blend well. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to bubble. Cook for 20 minutes until mixture is smooth and creamy. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Stir while cooling. The icing will have a glossy finish. When cooled spread on cake.

I was going to write about high tea at the Ritz-Carlton for A’s birthday, but I felt like telling the story in ASL instead. So you can view the video for that here (WMV file), and the translation follows. There’s a bit of Truffle in there too.

Today is my 25th birthday, and I am fretting about whether or not to go out to dinner. I have done extremely well with my diet, and I haven’t eaten anything inappropriate even in the face of emotional adversity. But it’s my birthday, and I want to go out to dinner. My plans are very specific: tonight, go to Sunflower and get my favorite dish, which is soy protein chunks done up kind of like Chinese food. At home, maybe a little bit of alcohol - like a little bit of kahlua, maybe, if I have any at all. This weekend, one piece of cake. (It will be ginger spice cake because that’s what my sister-in-law wanted, and her birthday is also today - she’s exactly two years younger than me.)

It sounds to me like I’m being pretty reasonable. One meal out, possibly a small drink, and one piece of cake. But I have been so rigid on the Diet to Go menu for two weeks that I’m scared to go off. I’m losing weight very well. Is this going to kill my diet? Will I only lose half a pound this week instead of a pound and a half? (Or whatever.) I’m just not sure what to do! Part of me is tempted to just eat tonight’s bean burritos at home, but I know A was also looking forward to going out to dinner with me. I’m scared of breaking the rules.
