I sent the following e-mail to my wife shortly after I got home this afternoon.
Do you have any compressed air at work? Can you please bring it home?
I have the world’s most disgusting computer problem.
Remember the tiny ants I mentioned? Turns out they’re not in the bedroom.
They’re in MY COMPUTER.
I am NOT making this up. I have watched them coming out of the keyboard at least a dozen times now.
I think an ant crawled in through one of the vents, and did whatever ants do to reproduce, and now I have a computer full of ants.
This calls for a nap.

I can summarize how I feel right now in six words.
I can hear my wife again. |
Okay, I gotta see what projects are coming due.
That’s all I can think of right now but I should check syllabuses for more…
I have updated to WordPress 2.5, let’s see if cross-posting still works and stuff. I really don’t want to do my homework right now.
Okay, it works, but it looks really weird now. I’ll get used to it.

Here is some weirdness. I posted an ad on Craigslist for my kayak.
from: Kristin Troy <kristin.troy@hotmail.com>
I’m interested in your Add and i’ll like to know if the Add is still active.Pls Get back asap,
Thanks.
Yes, the kayak is still available…are you interested?
Hello,
Glad to read from you…. I’m really interested in the Add but i’m so sorry as i won’t be able to come for a look as i’m the busy type. Well, i’ll keep in touch with my financier to mail a check for the amount you’re requesting for the Add and will have a shipping company to come for the pick up as soon as you confirm to me that you receive the check and it clears your bank.
If this arrangement is acceptable, pls get back to me with your name as it will appear on the check and your contact address that the check will be mail to along with your cell #. Get back as soon as possible,
Thanks.
Thanks for your interest, but I think you would do better buying one
that doesn’t require shipping.
(Is that weird or what? Who has a 17-foot kayak shipped to them? I smell a scam.)
Added: Well this is odd…there is a Kristin Troy who runs Idaho Adventures, a rafting outfitter…who also does kayaking…hmm.
Today I got fitted for hearing aids. I am getting open fit Oticon Epoq XW’s with the Bluetooth option. Total cost is $5,648 and I’ve already put down a $200 deposit. I got them in “beige silver” - the closest option to my skin tone. I was surprised to find that the little tiny tube is fixed in a certain shape, not flexible. I got to try on a demo model; the BTE piece is about half the length of my ear. It plays a cute little jingle when you turn it on. They should come in 3-5 days so I’ll be picking them up sometime next week.
At first the guy said, “your hearing isn’t that bad” but I told him I’m an interpreter, and explained that I need to hear everything right the first time, he understood immediately and said “you’ll love the Epoq, I think it will be perfect for you.” So there you go, I did my own research beforehand and made the right choice.
My prank on A was so good, she thought it was Google’s prank! I had changed all her iGoogle stuff to be in German, including widgets all in German and a different theme and everything. I used Google Translate to put instructions on how to restore the backup I made beforehand, but she didn’t bother with it - just went to the tab where I had stashed all her real widgets. It wasn’t until tonight that I prodded her about it and she said “oh that was you!”
Tomorrow I am going to these people to see about buying my Epoqs. VR has new rules that mean I would have to wait more than a year for service, and very probably longer, so I didn’t even bother opening a file. I will get a trial period through these people, so I get to figure it all out and stuff.
I left school early today - skipped linguistics class and College Bowl practice - because I am all anxious and depressed and don’t feel good. I think I am better now though. A and I just finished watching Gypsy 83 and I feel okay.
Also, my story and picture finally got published in Budget Travel magazine’s funny travel stories contest! check it out!
Ladies and gentlemen, you have but a few hours before April Fool’s Day commences in earnest. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to do a good April Fool’s prank using a computer. Note that if you, like me, have access to a large computer lab, you should only use hardware-based tricks, because individuals will all have different login credentials. Report back when you have completed your mission.
When I saw on BBCool that the Blackberry 8820 is about to be released, I got slightly worried. The article reported that the phone will combine GPS and wifi in one unit, which as far as I can tell is a first for Blackberry devices. If this phone had a camera, I would have been annoyed because it would be my dream phone - and I just bought my Curve 8310 for $330. But when I checked it out on Gizmodo, sure enough, no camera. A lot of commenters seemed to like that, saying that their employers don’t allow camera phones. Only one person pointed out that the Blackberry camera can be disabled at the enterprise level by administrators. I don’t want a phone without a camera; I first had one with my Color Sidekick (man that thing was crap) and I love it. In fact, the Curve’s camera is so good (2MP) that I haven’t used my regular camera since I got the phone - nothing I’ve taken a picture of has been that important. So even though the 8820 will have both GPS and wifi, it’s not for me.
And neither is the upcoming Curve 8330. It doesn’t have wifi. What’s it take to get a quality smartphone with GPS, wifi, and camera?
