Monday Mission

January 5th, 2004

This is the final Monday Mission. Unfortunately my answers are a little bit more terse than they usually are, but I just didn’t have much to say in response to these questions. Promo always served up quality fare, though, and I usually said a lot more while doing Monday Missions.

1. In the last week, what happened that made you feel loved beyond your wildest dreams?
This is probably too much information for a lot of my readers, but it made me feel so very loved that it’s the only answer I can give. I made love to my girlfriend and she called out my name.

Monday Mission

December 8th, 2003

I don’t do writing prompts or quizzes very often anymore, but when I saw that the Monday Mission will be ending, I decided I to participate in the last few weeks of questions. I used to do the MM fairly regularly, and its author is a fellow ADHD adult, but I grew away from it as I did with all the other writing prompts I used to do regularly. I ended up being kind of long-winded on this post anyway!

1. Do you have any vacation time from work saved up for the Holidays? Or are you taking any time off or traveling this month? What are your plans?
Unfortunately I have no leave time because I only just started at the company on November 17th. In fact I don’t even get my holiday pay for Thanksgiving, Xmas, and New Year’s because those are all within my 60-day probationary period! (This was obviously a bad time to join the company.) They hadn’t told me about not getting paid for those days, though, so I was surprised to hear about it when my supervisor was reviewing the timesheet that included Thanksgiving and told me she had to change it from “holiday” to “leave without pay.” I called the HR director when I heard (he was the only one in the office that could have helped me with the problem) and he felt bad that nobody told me about it, so I think he might be trying to get those eight hours back for me. But I am traveling this month despite the lack of pay! I am expecting to go (with A) to my parents’ house for Xmas Eve, and then we’ll open some presents there Xmas morning. (Yes, I made the conscious decision long ago not to write that word out unless I absolutely had to. I forget why, but it’s habit now.) That afternoon we’ll go to A’s parents’ house for an early dinner, and my parents will drive back home. (We only live a few miles from A’s parents’ house, but my parents live about 35 miles north.) I will probably be working four hours on the morning of the 26th, and then we’ll go to New York by train or bus.

Weekly Wrapup

October 17th, 2003

I used to do the Weekly Wrapup every week, but in the past several months I’ve gotten away from writing prompts. I decided to do this week’s anyway because I really like the topic.

1. Describe how much you agree or disagree with the idea that journals and blogs are a way to “save” your life?
I definitely agree that journaling is a way to preserve your life. I’m not sure that doing it online is necessarily oriented that way; it seems to be done more for an audience now than for posterity. I do not agree that blogging is done to save your life, because blogging involves looking externally rather than the introspection of journaling.

Weekly Wrapup

September 26th, 2003

It’s been a long time since I’ve done any writing prompts, but the current Weekly Wrapup is about internet addiction and I feel like I really should answer this one.

1. Are you addicted to the Internet? Why or why not? If so, how?
Yes, I am definitely addicted to the internet. I’m not sure why exactly - I think it has to do with my ADHD and the fact that there are millions of things to do and see online. It’s nearly impossible for me to get bored while I’m online - there’s always something more. As for how - I honestly would be online every minute of every day if I could. I want to be online while I’m in the car, at work, everything. I get grumpy if I can’t be online for some reason at a time when I would otherwise be able to. I love being with my friends and doing things in real-life, but my desire to be online at other times is strong enough that I would definitely call it an addiction.

Friday Five

August 16th, 2003

I haven’t done any writing prompts like this in a while, but the other Meredith did yesterday’s Friday Five and the questions looked like some I’d want to answer.

1. How much time do you spend online each day?
It depends on whether I’m working or not. Lately I haven’t had any work, so I’ve been spending a minimum of eight and usually up to ten hours online. Because the computer is in the kitchen now, I usually log off when A gets home so I can hang out with her in the bedroom.

Monday Mission

July 21st, 2003

Here’s this week’s Monday Mission.

1. Have you ever been in a situation where you were worried sick about something/someone and your mind played out horrible outcomes? What was the situation and what did your imagination come up with? How did it all turn out?
Yeah, it’s happened frequently and recently, but it’s personal and I don’t really feel comfortable disclosing it.

Monday Mission

July 15th, 2003

Promo was a little bit late with this week’s Monday Mission, but he’s too cute to stay mad at for long.

1. When was the last time you were in the hospital as a patient? As a visitor?
I go to the hospital pretty frequently to work, but I don’t think I’ve ever been an inpatient - even the surgery I had more than ten years ago was outpatient. I don’t remember the last time I visited anybody, either, unless you count clients.
