Forever Bunz

I finally got my tattoo to mark our 10th anniversary. The anniversary was in February but it took me a while to decide on a design. It was supposed to be something my wife designed, but she never did…so I picked this instead. Her nickname for me has been “bunz” for many, many years now. And here it is, permanently marked upon me…forever bunz. |
New Piercing

Well, this is my new piercing. If I don’t look thrilled, it’s because I’m not. It’s not at all the piercing I wanted. See, I’ve wanted an industrial for years. Literally, for years. And the guy said my ear wasn’t suited for it.
I was hanging out with a couple of friends in New York and I decided I wanted to get the industrial I’ve been dreaming of for so long. (I used to only have lobe piercings, but ever since I went back to school, I’ve realized I can get anything that doesn’t show up much on a VRS screen.) I called New York Adorned and they wanted a lot for it, so I ended up at Ian’s which had gotten pretty favorable reviews on Yelp and only wanted $45 for piercing and jewelry combined. When we got to St. Mark’s Place, where Ian’s is located, I saw several jewelry vendors on the street. There are a ton of piercing shops on that corner, so I figured they were selling unique stuff that wasn’t in the shops. I knew I wanted a cool barbell, and I ended up getting a spiral one. We went into Ian’s, I bought the piercing jewelry, and sat to wait for a navel piercing and a nostril piercing to be done before it was my turn. When I got to go into the piercing room, I hopped up on the table. The guy immediately said “I can’t do this.” It turns out I don’t have the ear for it. I immediately knew what he meant. See, I have a sticky-outy part on my ear, and if he did the piercing, I would be in danger of ear collapse or having the sticky-outy part grow over the barbell. I knew I had that bit that stuck out, but I didn’t think it would prevent me from getting the piercing I’ve wanted for years. Unfortunately, according to the guy, it did. He pointed out that unscrupulous piercers would have said “oh sure” without a thought to the risks involved, and I knew he was right. He suggested an orbital instead, and I like those too, so I said that sounded good. Unfortunately, it turns out you can’t get an orbital all at once. According to this guy, you have to heal the first hole and then do the second. So I ended up walking out of the shop with nothing more than a 16g inner conch piercing. Again…not what I wanted. I’m hoping that someday I can turn it into an orbital or something else cool. I went back to the vendor I’d bought the barbell from and explained what happened, and he let me trade it for a pink ring with a silver ball. He even gave me back the $4 that resulted from the price being different, which was nice of him. So I did get a piercing today…which is nice…but not the one I wanted…which makes me sad. |
Happy Halloween 2007!

I had a great time wearing my white contacts to school today. The first person I saw was the girl who works in the bookstore, and she said I should go there for the costume contest. Then I saw my friend Robert, and he was substantially creeped out by them. I took a seat in the Honors Lounge right by the door, which happened to be very convenient because I was the first thing all my friends saw when they came into the room. One girl even screamed out loud! A lot of people were shocked, some were startled, and a few were really impressed. I got a lot of people who stared at me as I walked by, and some people asked where I got them. It was a lot of fun!
(I don’t recommend wearing white contacts into a visual environment on a daily basis though. It upset a few of the people who wanted to talk to me and couldn’t because making eye contact was freaky!) |
My New Laptop

Here is a picture of my new laptop! It is a Dell Inspiron 1501. I had to decorate it, you see, because it’s identical to the laptop a school friend of mine has. Of course his runs Vista and mine runs XP, but why should you have to boot up a computer to see whose it is? Much better to put stickers on one of them. Anybody who catches the center sticker’s meaning obviously knows me well… |
First Tattoo Picture

This is only about 13 hours old, which is why it still looks kind of messy and angry. But there it is! She actually filled in the hand with fleshtone, which surprised me - I thought the lines would have made it 3-D enough. It took about two hours, half the time she originally estimated, but I think she also simplified it a bit. The total cost was $350 and I gave her a $60 tip. I look forward to posting more pictures when it doesn’t ache as much and once the swelling has settled down! (The pain is gone, but it still aches.) |
I Bought a Kayak

I bought a kayak this morning! It’s a used plastic Perception Eclipse, 17′ long. I happened to glance at Craigslist just a few minutes after someone had posted an ad for this boat, and the price was really good so I immediately e-mailed to ask if I could come take a look at it. The guy happened to be just a couple of miles away, which is fortunate because the DC Craigslist covers a pretty broad area.
This morning I took a look, lifted it, sat in it, etc. - and decided to buy it. This is the first time I’ve owned a “real” boat - I had a Clearwater Designs rec boat a year or two ago, but I sold it because a rec boat wasn’t what I wanted. I’ll now be returning the Gulfstream to Woody and hopefully this boat wont sink once I get it on the water, ha! The guy was selling it because he’d just finished building a Chesapeake Light Craft boat, so hopefully there’s not really anything wrong with this one. I’m sure it will be fine, and I’m eager to try it! Oh, and the seller included a spray skirt, so I don’t have to worry about buying one that doesn’t fit! (I returned that one today.) |
A Maine Coon in the House Again
![]() Princess Yum Yum, originally uploaded by woofiegrrl. |
We have a Maine Coon in the house again. This is Princess Yum Yum, my in-laws’ kitty. They are going away on vacation for the entire month of July, so we are taking care of the kitty…at our house. Yum Yum came from the same breeder as Wu, and she’s extremely skittish. When I went to pick her up last night my in-laws’ didn’t have her in the carrier yet, so I ended up being the one to grab her - I only got one little scratch, fortunately.
The reason we’re taking care of her at our house is because she’d probably go crazy alone for a month. Even if we went over to their house for a few hours every night, she’s used to somebody being home pretty much all the time and would probably start knocking things over and generally making a mess if she was alone by herself for a long time. After I brought her over last night, we let her loose in our bedroom with the door closed, and Toadie is the only other one in here. She did a circuit of the bedroom (and I was only able to get pictures of the back of her head; did I mention she’s skittish?) and promptly disappeared under the bed and hasn’t been out since last night. I can see a breathing silhouette when I peer under there, and we hear her moving periodically, but we’ll just have to leave her alone and hopefully she’ll come out when she’s hungry. |
Corset Photos
Today we took some really beautiful pictures of me in the new corset.

It’s finally here! I was checking the mail with great anticipation every day for two weeks, and it’s finally here! This is the corset I took a poll about a little while ago, and I’m really pleased with the way the paisley turned out. There are a number of things wrong with this picture - the lacing shouldn’t be wrapped around, I’m standing somewhat crooked, the bust could be laced more tightly, and I’m wearing a dorky liner under it - but you get the general idea. The shape is really great, I’m so thrilled with this! And it’s definitely custom - I can tell because it fits. I’ve always known that “a custom corset won’t hurt because it will just FIT you” but now I finally know what that means. (My other corsets have been somewhat less than fully custom, let’s just say that.) Anyway, it’s finally here, and I love it! |
UU Earrings
![]() UU Earrings, originally uploaded by woofiegrrl. |
I am the only person I know who has Unitarian Universalist holiday earrings (not chalice stuff). They’re not meant to be that specific, of course, but UUs often celebrate both Xmas and Hanukkah. These were a gift from long ago, I believe the giver herself was Jewish but her (adult) children were UUs so she was used to the concept. I had lost one of these a while back and I was surprised to find both of them in my jewelry box this morning! |
