Missing Ducks, Missing Letters, Missing Pounds

Morning squirrel count: 7

I think the reduced squirrel count is because it’s a bit cooler this morning. I did see the lone remaining mallard standing on the edge of the fountain; there had been two drakes and a hen but lately I’ve only been seeing the one by himself.

I just cannot figure out the name of the tenant that’s taken over the space adjacent to our office suite. They’re called Lex Solutio, which seems to me like it’s been cut short. My boss speculated it was related to “lexicon,” and my other boss - pointing out that they do legal-related work - postulated that maybe it was similar to Lexis-Nexis…but what I was referring to was the Solutio part of the name. It looks like it should be Solution or Solutions; I just can’t figure out the missing letter(s). (Oh. I just looked it up. Apparently “solution” is from the Latin “solutio” after all.)

I had my weekly weigh-in this morning. I’ve now lost 10 pounds! It took me almost a month, but I’m still proud of myself.

I think the slimy vendor

I think the slimy vendor outside my building cheated me out of twenty cents, but he’s ugly and leers at me and I’m not going back there. And what did I buy? A bottle of water. I am the queen of hating water, I drink diet soda with just about everything, I don’t even like bottled or filtered water. But the people on the WW message boards said I should drink it, so I’m trying. And it’s okay that the guy took my twenty cents, too, because my girlfriend has pointed out that it’s worth spending the money if it’ll help me lose weight. (She was actually referring to the $5 I’m spending on lunch every day at Subway, but I figure it applies elsewhere too.)

Last night I went grocery shopping for the first time since starting the diet. I felt a little silly walking around the store with my Palm in hand calculating points, but I managed to find things like bread and snacks other than fruit. Being a TV dinner junkie, I had a blast in the frozen food section - I picked up a bunch of Weight Watchers-brandSmart Ones, plus some Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice dinners. I got a half-gallon of Healthy Choice Chocolate Chocolate Chunk ice cream (the best of what was available), and a package of Weight Watchers Smart Ones ice cream sandwiches. A and I each had an ice cream sandwich after dinner, and mariann was right - they’re good! It’s not quite like the real thing - the middle has a funny texture, like ice milk rather than ice cream, but the cookie is tasty and the whole thing is a wonderful treat while I’m on this diet. Thanks, mariann!

Unfortunately grocery shopping took forever…hopefully next time I will have a better idea of what I can get and will move through the store more quickly. My first weigh-in is tomorrow, too.

Slurpee Data

May 16, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: diet

While trying to find nutritional information for Slurpees, I stumbled across bradfitz’s page about them. (If you don’t already know, his LiveJournal userid is 1 - he started the site.)

Now back to trying to find that information…I’m hoping to figure out how many Weight Watchers points are in a Slurpee.

Update, 10:49am Well, they’re kosher, at least.

Update, 11:18am Not even the official Slurpee page had any helpful information, so I sent a message to their Customer Relations department.

Okay, this is the first

Okay, this is the first time I’ve been frustrated.

I have about half a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby (my favorite B&J flavor) in the freezer, because I bought it before starting WW on Saturday. I’ve been having fruit for every snack, and I really want a treat. It’s there. And I want it. But I’m not having it. Yes, it was my decision to go on this diet, and I’ve got to stick to it…but I still want that damn ice cream. Or any treat, really…something yummy. I think I’m hungry, but I’m not sure - I had a pretty good-sized dinner, and only banked one point today. If I manage not to go over my daily limit all week, I’ll have enough saved up for a successful-first-week trip to Baskin-Robbins, which actually has a bunch of low-point flavors.

Update, 12:37am I had a serving of baby carrots (that’s nine of ‘em) with a bit of the Walden Farms calorie-free ranch dressing. That was not what I really wanted.

Weight Watchers

I’ve done it - I’ve signed up with Weight Watchers. I start tomorrow. My daily point range is 20-25, and I was quite pleased to learn that a six-inch veggie sandwich from Subway is just four points. (Of course that’s without cheese or any dressing, but still.) I think I might actually be able to do this.
