Shimura

My #1 Sakura House choice is still Monzennakacho, because it’s within a mile from my friend’s house. But my #2 choice is Shimura Sanchome, because OH MY GOD THEY’RE HUGE. Seriously, like 1.5-2x the size of any other apartment in my price range. No furo (bath), but I’d live without it for the excess floor … Continue reading »

Packing

I don’t even know how to pack for a year in a country where I can’t easily shop for clothes. I’ll be bringing half my wardrobe. And what else do you bring? Toiletries…but do you need them? I can buy them there, right? How do you move for a year?

Visits

I do love the furo, it’s very different from our American baths, which are not really for soaking. It’s a little hard … Continue reading »

Print

I picked this up at the cat show last weekend. It’s a print of a painting by Cassie Graus, who goes by “KittyCassandra” on Facebook. She had a ton of adorable designs but I chose this one with the express purpose of putting it up in my apartment in Tokyo. If I don’t get the … Continue reading »

Flying

Following Nomadic Matt’s instructions, I discovered that the cheapest one-way flight from Washington to Tokyo in March 2012 is on Aeroflot, with a 9-hour layover in Moscow. It’s only $806 but who wants to travel for two days?! I’d rather pay a little more and take the direct flight on ANA for $1022. The Ultimate … Continue reading »
