This might be TMI, I’ll try to keep it clinical. But it does have to do with gynecology and that sort of thing.
I use birth control to handle my period. I’ve done so for 10 years and I love it. My reasons aren’t important. But that is what I do.
History:
2000: Start depo-provera. Result is complete amenorrhea, and I am very happy.
2005: New research shows it’s bad to be on depo over 2 years, it’ll wreck your bones. Bone density scan useless under 25. Switch to continuous nuvaring. Amenorrhea and happy.
2010: Decide the ring makes my pH unhappy or something. It’s not right. Decide to discontinue the ring.
So then I got my first period, and it sucked. Then I got my second, and it sucked. Then I got my third and it sucked. So I looked at alternatives.
After doing my own research, I decided on Mirena. Went to planned parenthood and got approved. But I have to get it through my insurance or it will cost $800! So they gave me an Rx for Lutera and I’ll skip the dummy pills, and make appointments with insurance covered providers.
But the Internet is full of Lutera horror stories, so I’m a little worried. Apparently it turns you into a raging beast, makes you nauseous, and other horrible things. I just picked up my first batch, so… we’ll see.

I dont know if you went though with the Mirena, but I have it and I am all for it. Keep in mind though, insertion for me was very painful. But its not that way for everyone. I got it in April and havent had a period since

Thanks for this article. My girlfriend has similar issues. We have looked into alternatives to deepo povera and we are not happy so far. She is having bad periods too and we may decide to skip the pill altogether.
