A friend is getting an Android phone tonight and wanted to know my favorite apps. I realized I could share that with the whole freakin’ world.

  • 250+ Solitaire – best solitaire I’ve tried, lots of games
  • Adobe Reader – for reading PDFs, duh
  • Advanced Task Killer – helps improve battery life and force cranky apps to close
  • AK Notepad – great jotting-things-down app
  • Alchemy – best game EVER
  • AP Mobile – news
  • ASTRO - file browser
  • Barcode Scanner – for, uh, scanning barcodes
  • BettrFlickr – paid app, I use it to upload to Flickr, there might be free alternatives by now
  • c:geo – for geocaching
  • Coloroid – fun game
  • ConnectBot – moo from the phone
  • craigsphone – search craigslist
  • Dolphin Browser HD – superb replacement for the default browser
  • Dropbox – if you use it
  • Evernote – if you use it
  • Exchange Rates – got it to keep track of the yen’s progress but it’s come in handy other times
  • Foursquare – gee, I dunno, you might be able to use this ;)
  • GasBuddy – find cheap gas nearby
  • Google Sky Map – fun and educational
  • Handcent SMS – good replacement for default texting app
  • ICE: In Case of Emergency – paid app, I feel safer with its widget on my home screen
  • Listen – podcast app
  • Mabilo – wallpapers, ringtones, etc, might have to get this off the web now, I think they left the market
  • Mint.com – if you use it
  • Movies – check local showtimes, modify your Netflix queue if you use it
  • Pandora – nuff said
  • Pkt Auctions – good eBay app, though I haven’t tried eBay’s own app
  • Read Later – push any share-able data to Read It Later
  • Ringdroid – create your own ringtones
  • Shazam – music identification
  • Slacker – if you use it
  • Smooth Calendar – great home screen widget
  • StreamFurious – listen to any online streaming radio cast
  • Tasker – paid app, makes your phone super powerful, google to learn more
  • ThinkFree Office – edit doc, xls, etc
  • Touiteur – good Twitter app
  • Trapster – get warned about red light cameras, speed traps, etc
  • UrbanSpoon – pick where to eat
  • Vlingo – search for stuff and type using your voice
  • Waze – if you use it
  • WeatherBug – I like putting their temperature app in my notifications bar
  • Where’s My Droid – if the phone volume is down, and you can’t find your phone, text it (from Google Voice, another phone, etc) and it will turn up the ringer and make noise so you can find the phone)
  • Wordfeud Free – scrabble, play with friends like ME
  • Yelp – if you use it
