Animal Transports (36/49)

When an animal is found in distress near the sanctuary, it goes straight there. But what about an animal 2,000 miles away? It gets put on a transport. PBS did a documentary on animal transports called Fifteen Legs, and you can read about it here. Basically, transports mean that someone picks up the animal from its starting point, and drives it as far as they can – sometimes a couple of hundred miles. The animal is picked up at that point by another transporter, who drives it for another leg. And so on until the animal gets where it’s going, whether that’s a new home, a different shelter, or Best Friends. My dearest friend Gretchen used to do these transports and I always thought it was so amazing. Plus the pictures of puppies she shared were great!
