OMGWTFBBQVEGAS.
I get two vacations in 2007! In addition to the long-planned cruise to Alaska with my mom, we are going to Vegas! I’ve never been there before, and I’ve always wanted to go because I love spangles and glitz and shows and fancy things, and Vegas has all of those. A’s work is sending her to a conference that runs February 18-21, and she will also be attending either a pre-conference class or a post-conference class, so we’ll get to be there for a full week. Of course the travel request hasn’t actually been approved yet, but it certainly looks like we’re going to Vegas.
The conference is at the Venetian hotel and casino. We will have to pay for my flight, of course, and all other expenses, but I will get to stay free because A’s company will be paying for her room. (I don’t know if she gets an expense account or stipend for food, but I certainly don’t. We’re also not sure if we’ll get to stay at the Venetian, but we’ll take a gondola ride regardless!) And I will have to come up with lots of ways to keep myself busy (and out of trouble), because she’ll be in the conference for most of the day. I wonder how many times in one day a person can ride the Manhattan Express coaster? I also want to check out the dolphins at the Mirage, and the water ballet at the Bellagio, and I really hope we’ll get to see Zumanity, the naughty nude show by Cirque de Soleil at New York-New York.
Holy crap, Vegas!
Some comments from someone who has been there several times… (and in fact is heading back on Monday on business!)
The Venetian is a great hotel, and would probably be my second or third choice of places to stay in Las Vegas., it is expensive though. Paris would actually be my first choice of hotels, it is a little cheaper. Luxor is neat if you can stay in the main pyramid, and Mandalay Bay is awesome, but also very expensive. I know you probably won’t have a choice, but just some suggestions in case A does get to express a preference. (I’m having to stay somewhere much cheaper this time unfortunately.)
And if you run out of things to do in Vegas, you’re just not thinking creatively enough.
I suggest skipping the Hoover Dam and other trips outside of town, too much time on buses and not as exciting as you might think. Star Trek: The Experience is neat, but over-priced.
As for Zumanity, it is a fabulous show, not quite as “naughty” as they might lead you to believe, but still pretty hot. I highly suggest booking tickets online as soon as the trip is a done deal. Also, if you can, spring for the “duo sofas” near the front or sides of the apron. They cost more, but have a really great view and being able to sit together on the sofa rather than in 2 separate seats adds to the mood.
