I was participating in a forum thread about the phone calls that were made from Flight 93 on 9/11, and I had the opportunity to give my opinion on the conspiracy theories relating to those calls. I figured I’d share on my own site, too. The “fascinating link” is one that I presented following a simple Google search.

I’ve gone up and down with my thoughts concerning this fascinating link of your provision…

There are so many bits that don’t add up and I found myself in agreeance with the writer while pondering most thoughtfully.

Yet, you live and work in D.C., yes?

Okay, so what’s your take on the above article? Totally authentic? Food for thought? Reaching?

First of all, I don’t feel that living in DC gives me a special perspective on that article. I definitely take “Hunt the Boeing” personally because it questions the attack on the Pentagon, but I don’t think the article about cell phones on Flight 93 is particularly relevant to me.

That said, and believing myself to be a logical person, I find the article rather fanciful. Surely parts of it are accurate, but overall the premise seems flawed. My biggest complaint is the obvious spin. By consistently saying “a person claiming to be…” they throw everything that person says into doubt. They want us to believe the calls were faked, and so they use language that advances that theory.

The entire article reminds me a lot of the “we never went to the moon” theory. There will always be people who believe humans have never been into space. And to be honest, that could be a fake - going to the moon is a good thing, right? So they want to make people feel good, they want to make people believe we’re beating the Soviets, so they make us look like we’re going to the moon.

But why would someone fake this? That’s what comes to my mind. The idea that it’s all a fake is terribly elaborate, but it leaves out one important point: why? Why would some unknown organization kill thousands of Americans? It wasn’t to go to war in Iraq - we did that because of the “weapons.” So why would somebody bother with all this? That’s my main response to this type of article.

By the way, I even found a couple of errors. “Call C” is described as coming from Mark Brigham - they use this spelling repeatedly - but the man’s name was Mark Bingham. Also, the only way you can get to DC by making a “hard left” at Cleveland is if you’re coming from Toronto. The plane made a U-turn at Cleveland. Minor errors in the scope of the overall article, but you’d think someone would have proofread for details first - it’s simple fact-checking.

Basically, my answer is: It’s not even food for thought, it’s poppycock.
