I had this conversation on the telephone shortly after arriving home from work today:
Her: Mrs. Smith?
Me: She’s not home right now, can I help you?
Her: Is there a Mister?
Me: That would be me. We’re lesbians.
Her: [laughs] That’s fine! Are you on the mortgage?
Me: No I’m not, but we’re happy with our current mortgage.
Her: Okay then.
Me: You have a good day now.
Her: You too.
I imagine she had fun sharing that with her fellow telemarketers!

That’s one of those things that telemarketers really need to change in their script. It’s kind of a rude thing to ask anyway… what if your answer was, “No, he’s dead!”?
