I’m in a good mood today for several reasons.

  1. I lost weight for two weeks in a row!
  2. I found out that I am going to get a PS2 for Xmas. My wife will be putting her money together with that of another friend or two in order to get one.
  3. That other friend also has a birthday close to Xmas, and understands that getting a combined Xmas/birthday present can be annoying. So he wants to get me a separate birthday gift and I get to put together a list.
  4. After struggling with auctions on eBay all weekend, I finally won an auction today for my dad’s Xmas present.
  5. I found one of my wife’s presents online for much cheaper than I thought it was going to be.
  6. I ordered my mom’s present and my wife’s other present, thereby completing my major holiday shopping.
  7. I found out that Malcolm used to be on GEnie!
  8. Today is moving at a fast clip, it hasn’t dragged at all.

Hooray for good days!

You used to be on GEnie? Don’t think I knew that.

Me too. Back in 90, 91, 92 (actually as late as 95 my mom used it to e-mail me at college using a special mail front-end that I wrote).

I frequented the Education RT, the Writers RT, the music RT and a few others on occasion.

And here’s a crazy, wacky GEnie-real world related story I love to tell people:

Yes! I had no idea you were there, either.
My mother and I fled to GEnie from Prodigy in 1990. That’s where I originally got my online name, too - I was STAR on GEnie. My mom was SUNNY.PF (except with her real name in there) because she was a moderator for the Public Forum RT. My friend Elizabeth was GAIA. I mostly hung out in SFRT2, one of the science fiction RTs, talking with people like Arne Starr (inker for Trek comics) and Joe Straczynski (creator of Babylon 5, who got very snooty once the show became a hit).

Woo hoo, that’s a lot of great news! :) I think you’ll love your PS2 - and the nice thing is that now you can find a lot of good games for cheaper, since its been out long enough now to have “latest hits” :D
I’ve got an auction bidding in process for a present for my mom - yay for ebay :) I still have a bit of shopping to do, but its hard to shop for E when he’s sitting here. LOL!
