In the wake of Hurricane Ivan, the entire island of Grenada has been nearly destroyed. I visited Grenada in April 2003, and had a wonderful time there. The last major hurricane to damage the island was a few years previously (can’t find the exact storm, even through the Caribbean Hurricane Network), but Grenada had rebuilt successfully by the time I was there. They’re back to square one now, though, with reports of an island in ruins and 90% of homes destroyed. It seems I may never get the recipe for pumpkin ravioli as served by the Brown Sugar Restaurant. I wish the people of Grenada much luck in their rebuilding efforts.
When my dad was telling us aobut this at lunch today, I knew I knew something about Grenada, but couldn’t place what. Now that I’m home and read this post, I bet it was just in my memory that you had gone there, and that’s the only time I’d heard anything about the island.
Its so sad, where do you go when a hurricane like that is coming? Its not like you can hide anywhere to get away from it with that little of a place, can you? scary. Makes me feel blessed to live away from hurricane area.
