Mariann’s gone self-referential with the current Weekly Wrapup.
1. Do you offer comments and/or trackback on your blog? Why or why not? Under what circumstances might you pull one or both of these feedback features?
Yes, I offer both comments and feedback; I love to read what other people think about what I’ve written. I especially like the affirmations that come when I’ve written something really good. I don’t think anything would make me close off these feedback options.
2. How do you handle comment trolls? Would you edit their posts or those of others who might express a differing opinion or offensive tone? Why or why not?
The only comment trolls I’ve really had are advertisers posting to DC Stories; the same advertiser posted at Masukomi’s and Melissa’s sites. I think I have had the occasional rude comment; I responded to one by commenting on the same entry, but the others I’ve just ignored.
3. Have you ever used a password protected blog (either .htaccess, restricted entries hacks, pMachine, LiveJournal, etc.)? When and why? How did you determine who you would permit access to this protected area?
I don’t use any of these features. I don’t think I ever even made friends-only posts when I used LiveJournal.
4. Do you let family, real life friends, or work colleagues read your blog? Why or why not?
My mother reads it. I’d let other family and friends read it if they want to, but nobody seems to be interested. (Actually, a good number of my friends are from online to begin with, and they do read it - but nobody much locally.) I don’t mind those groups knowing the truth about me, but I’d prefer to keep work colleagues away from my personal life - I’ve never felt comfortable integrating the two. If someone from work were to find this site, though, it would be their own fault and I’d hope they wouldn’t judge me based on something they chose to read.
5. Name one person on your blogroll you’d most like to meet. Why did you pick that person? Where would you go and what would you do?
Good question! I’ve already met Caitlin and Mariann, and I know Gaia, Kethet, Linnea, Sunny, Warhol, and Wellsie from non-blogging connections. I’d really like to meet Shanni to talk interpreting. I’m hoping I might meet Aleja this weekend, we’ll see. (I know her from non-blogging connections as well, but we haven’t met.)
