The weather we’ve had in 2003 to date has been terrible. Snow, more snow, blizzard, snow, rain, thunderstorms, rain…it’s almost June and it’s barely been 70 degrees! Mariann’s current Weekly Wrapup is about summer, but it feels like wishful thinking.
1. Do you like summer? Why or why not?
This was the question I was waiting for back in the winter. I absolutely adore summer, because I like to be warm; the humidity we usually have in this region doesn’t bother me too much. I prefer to step out of the house as free as possible, without a winter coat and all that cold-weather gear weighing me down.

There are some changes I’ve been meaning to make around this site for a while. I want to start a photoblog, for one thing. I have the digital camera, I should use it. A large problem with that plan is the server space issue…where would I put those pictures? I also want to clean up all of my code - that’s been in the works for ages - including polishing up some of the skins that break in various locations. Along the lines of skins, I want to start my own design site with the two designs I created several months ago. I want to upgrade to the latest MT, of course, and automate the LiveJournal mirroring. I also want to rethink the categories I sort things into, and combine that with adding keywords for all entries. Fewer categories would be neater, and if everything had keywords then I could use the RelatedEntriesByKeyword plugin. (There are a number of other plugins I’d like to use, too, but maybe I should wait for the release of the Plugin Manager.)
There’s so much I want to do in so many segments of life online and offline, I’m never going to catch up. I’m months behind on ODP and Everything2 as well. It feels like life will always pass me by. Fortunately A is a professional project manager, and she’s promised to someday help me use Microsoft Project to organize all these plans.
That was fun. Only one person got so drunk she threw up, and it wasn’t me. It was, however, a tall skinny young girl who had a bit too much rum, so it could have been me - but I didn’t drink that much. I do have lots of leftover drinks that I’d bought for myself - hard lemonade, and tiny little pre-mixed Kahlua drinks, plus some wine coolers I had before the party. I’m not a big drinker, though, so that will last me a while. (Actually, :MK:’s bachelorette party is coming up, so I’ll probably get to share my drinks then.) Our friend C took yesterday off work, so the three of us went to see The Matrix Reloaded yesterday. I guess it was okay; I liked the fight scenes a lot more the the plot this time. Oh, and on Saturday I dragged a bunch of our bashers to the store where I work in the mall, and used my employee discount to buy several hundred dollars worth of stuff for them. I got myself a Palm m130, so I am really excited about that.
It’s unlikely I’ll post much before Tuesday - we’re having our annual weekend-long Memorial Day party, and the first guest is already here before we’re even finished getting ready. I might check in once or twice. Have a good weekend, everyone!
I was pointed toward one LiquidGeneration quiz, but the site turned out to be all-Flash so I took several to avoid having to reload the page at a later date if I wanted to take more quizzes.
Ultimate 80s Quiz: I am Knightrideresque, which means I got 58/100 right. (Give me a break, I wasn’t born until 1981.)
How Wicked Gay Are You?: I am a Lipstick Lesbian. (Well, duh.)
Do You Have Syphilis?: The quiz says Yes. (But not really.)
Which John Hughes Movie Character Are You?: I am Brian Ralph Johnson. (He’s the kid played by Anthony Michael Hall in the Breakfast Club. Aw, why couldn’t I have been Ally Sheedy’s character?)
Which Marvel Superheroine Are You?: I am Elektra. (I don’t even know what comic this is from.)
How Perverted Are You?: This is the quiz I came here for, and I am Sick As Shit Perverted. (Wahoo!)
Damn! Why do I always do this to myself? After reading about a deaf male cat in Georgia who’s seeking a home, and a deaf mom cat with kittens in Virginia who also needs somewhere to go, I foolishly went and looked at pictures of both and read the story of the mother cat. Why do I love looking at cats in need of help that I can’t take on? I have four feline beasties already, I’m not allowed to get more (the social structure is delicate anyway), why do I look?! I do want a pointed cat, though, so the next time I can get a cat I’ll scour the shelters for a pretty pointed one…but I’ll probably end up taking home the first cat I see.
WMATA’s CEO says there will be problems evacuating the city in the event of a terrorist attack.
Transportation officials said that if everyone gets in their cars, the gridlock would block evacuation routes.
Of course, that’s what happens every weekday anyway. Possible options for emergency situations could include making people walk, requiring that a driver carry at least one passenger, and only allowing HOV-eligible cars and buses on city roads.
Am I the only person who has noticed the similarity between musical segments in OMC’s song “How Bizarre” and in the old Ben E. King tune Spanish Harlem? (I believe the latter was covered by Elvis, but I’m not sure.) This has bothered me for years, ever since I first heard the song. There’s even something I don’t like in the lyrics of How Bizarre, but according to three different sites I might be wrong about what the lyrics are, but then again those three sites disagree with each other anyway. I could have sworn there was a line that said “wanna know the riffs? hey, buy the rights” which would have been a total slash over the tune pilfering, but the lyrics sites say it’s “rest” and not “riffs.” Still, I know that’s the same line of notes.
I received an e-mail telling me that BlogTV already had enough beta testers, but what was amazing was that the sender had actually looked at my site! The e-mail opened with “This is probably not the best time to be sending you this as I can see from your blog that your current imood is disappointed.” I think that iMood might be a couple of days old, but I’m astonished that somebody not only noticed, but apologized for sending me bad news. The e-mail closed with “You do have a nice looking blog though!” which is a pleasant boost.
I had a very nice dinner with Caitlin the other day, and she got to meet A. I hadn’t been to Sunflower in a while, but the food was as delicious as ever; I don’t know what Caitlin thought of a vegan restaurant! (A usually eats meat but would rather be a vegetarian, so she liked it fine.) Oh, and I got to see Caitlin’s famous Cooper Mini, whee! When I arrived I wasn’t sure how I’d know if she was already there, so I stayed by my car until A showed up. The two of us waited inside, and after a few minutes I saw the Mini pull into the parking lot - how could I have forgotten?! She may have to look for another job soon, and the company A is contracted to may be looking for someone with Caitlin’s talents, so I’m glad they got to meet.
