From Today’s Post

Morning squirrel count: 9

Let’s start with Ann Landers, whose official biography page at the Creators Syndicate site has yet to be updated even though she died in late June. Today’s column includes a letter from “Given Up in New Jersey,” who has been divorced for 20 years and complains that all the men who submit pictures to online personals are ugly (she describes them in detail). Ann’s response included “…I hope you are interested in more than a handsome face. Sometimes it is necessary to look beyond the photograph.” Wisely put, and typical of her nature…but damn, she could’ve insulted the woman a little more. Shallow beast! I’d also wondered what the plan was for newspapers running the Ann Landers column; the last one she wrote was for July 27th. Apparently the column will be replaced by one called Annie’s Mailbox, jointly written by the two women who have been editing Ann Landers columns for more than 20 years each.

Turning back to the front page of the Style section, I found an article about the International Spy Museum, which is set to open on Friday. Admission is a whopping $11, a massive fee in a town that’s used to the always-free Smithsonian museums. The article is not full of praise, but rather grumbles about the collection and postulates that it’s not really a museum, but rather an “attraction.”

And finally, three cheers for WX.com! Their front page advertises “the new WX.com” as having new features including easier customization, better look and feel, quicker navigation, and more interactive content. Sounds great, sign me up! Oh wait, it’s broken. Way to go, kids…you win the Bonehead Redesign award.

Oh, and I’ve added a very plain Marlene Dietrich skin. I had a lot more in mind for it, but it turned out to be rather boring; the image does change on reload but that’s about it. I haven’t checked yet, but it ought to be compatible in many browsers – I don’t think there’s anything fancy in there.
