Double Bass Style, Six Flags, ShanMonster

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: site design

I finally whipped up a style of my own that isn’t just playing around. Blue is a nice color, so I used it for a style based on the scroll of a double bass. I guess the results look okay. I wish the style browser would let you see your own non-public styles. I’d like to be able to view my own in sequence like that. Maybe next I’ll work on a journal that imitates ODP, that would be reasonably easy - and hell, there are plenty of other sites ripping off the design (which is theoretically owned by Netscape). And maybe, just maybe, one of these days I will actually pick a style to use.

I picked up those vouchers for season passes at Six Flags America today. It turns out we have to take them there first, but then our season pass is valid at any Six Flags-owned park, including Magic Mountain, which has X…and I think I might be crazy enough to go on it if I ever make it across the country. Six Flags also bought La Ronde recently, and I haven’t been there since 1994 so I’m sure they gotten new rides even before the corporate buyout. And I still want to go to Cedar Point, but that’s not covered by the season pass (from which I have digressed greatly).

Also, I’ve been finding the ShanMonster terribly interesting, especially the ICQverts section. Since discovering it I’ve had my ICQ set to “free for chat” and yet I cannot get any perverts to send me messages so I can mock them.

DVD Player

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: media

I have just ordered this DVD player. Total cost: $139.99 - yay!

My girlfriend still thinks I should have put all the tax refund money toward braces, but I’ve thought about the issue for a while and quite frankly I want a DVD player…and now I’m going to get one. Knowing that she thinks I should have saved the money makes me worry that I shouldn’t have gotten the DVD player, but I’m a big girl now and I have to make decisions like that on my own. (Then why am I still so nervous?)

What Kind of a Fag Are You?

The what kind of a fag are you quiz says I am a clubber. Bwahahahaha! They couldn’t be further from right.

Philosophical Games

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: quizzes

I found an interesting set of philosophical games. Apparently the path I chose in the Staying Alive game not only got me dead, but confused the computer or something. I tried changing my last answer - the only one I hadn’t been sure of - and came out as consistent with the theory of psychological reductionism. And by pure guessing, I managed to beat Nigel the Novice at the Interactive Philosophy Quiz. Anyway, there are several other games. They’re amusing, if you’re amused by philosophical sorts of things.

How Not to Design a Website

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: internet

TO BE EFFECTIVE, YOUR WEBSITE NEEDS TO BE WELL ORGANIZED, PLEASING TO THE EYE, AND EASY TO NAVIGATE BECAUSE YOUR WEBSITE IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER MARKETING TOOL YOU EVER HAD ON THE INTERNET.

So says Jazzi Communications. I’m sorry, but I would not trust my web design to a firm that can’t even produce a decent page for itself. Almost the entire site is in CAPS LOCK and the colors and backgrounds are just terrible and the graphics are all animated and ugh! But even with all that, I thought it was worth mentioning because it’s amusing.

Cool and Wide Styles

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: blogging

I’ve just found that adcott has created a bunch of great public styles. phlagm has neat lastn, friends, and calendar styles - they’re not public, but they’re amusing to look at anyway. Apparently idigital has done a cool public set as well. Of course I found all of these through lj_nifty - I have yet to go looking for cool ones myself. I’d really like to get on the ball and work on my own - if only actual work didn’t keep interfering.

Update, 12:09pm It’s just occurred to me that any style that limits width is going to break if I make a journal entry that exceeds the defined size. I could hide all my future polls and tables behind cuts, but I may have to completely rethink what I’m doing here.

Today’s 2000days question is… If

Apr 30, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: uncategorized

Today’s 2000days question is…
If you could only have one and HAD to have one of the following which would it be: lawyers, guns or money?
That’s an easy one. Definitely money. I don’t have any use for a gun, and as of right now I don’t need a lawyer - and if I had money, I could hire a lawyer if I ever needed such services.

Geek Quiz

Apr 29, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: quizzes

The Geek Quiz says I am an old school geek. The text in the little graphic is really accurate, except for the part about having my own BBS and frequenting newsgroups. And I would go watch Star Trek now, but my girlfriend has the remote control.

Hrm. So far the poll

Apr 29, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: uncategorized

Hrm. So far the poll results are showing 10 votes for the white style and 9 votes for the blue. I really have no idea at all which one I like better, so I’m still trying to figure out which would be better as a friends style. So far the only friends style I’ve created is the lavender butterfly one, and it looks kind of strange - but I want to be able to have the calendar and day view styles match too, eventually, so I’ve got to find something that’s really versatile. When I tried just now to convert the blue style into a friends page, it broke terribly and I’m not sure why - I’ll have to figure it out later on.

Grrr. I am not happy

Apr 29, 2002 Author: Meredith | Filed under: uncategorized

Grrr. I am not happy with my boss right now. He’s promised to dock $20 from my pay for having to do a little dance-around this weekend to correct a mistake I made, even though it didn’t directly affect a customer. He said that what he should have done was called me at 8:00 Saturday morning (though earlier he said he didn’t find out about the problem until 10am, but he can conveniently forget that now) and had me come in to fix it. Which I have done before, as a matter of fact, even without his calling me - but excuse me? He knows I was fucking sick all weekend. I didn’t say it just now, but I think if he had done that I would have said “that’s nice fuck off find another solution” because I was sick, okay? Ah, I’m just complainin’.

@pathseekerken But it's sausage. On a stick. Not so bad itself, but wrapped in a pancake? A BLUEBERRY pancake?! I'm scared on principle. 5 hrs ago
